Unlike the Festiva there is not enough room to swap anything realistic in.. it is a 3 cylinder after all. I have plenty of parts and pieces, and have plans to rebuild some into performance (Ha ha) builds. I even have parts to make a 1 liter version not seen in North America. That one might be tuned for low fuel consumption.

Hey! One in my hutch of six MK1 Golf/Rabbits was Mexico Beige! At least they had the confidence to call it beige back then. You'd never catch an automaker doing that these days - it'd be Twilight Sand or some such silliness.

Volkswagen Mexico Beige / #d9a06f Hex Color Code Schemes, Charts, Palettes, Paints & RGB / CMYK / HSL Conversion
As The Register would say, "More than you would reasonably care to know about" Mexico Beige. It was available on Porsche 924.
After Koral Rot, my favorite L-code color is Shantung Gold. It is [almost] indistinguishable from another 1971 color, Kansas Beige. The one sounds exotic, the other — just... flat.
I'm happier about the Bilsteins, the five-speed and the Ronal R-8 wheels.

Apart from the Mitsubishi Mirage's 3-cyl and Ford's 1.0L Ecoboost, isn't there any other 3-cyl available there, right? And it may take some time for them to become easily available in the junkyards. But anyway, a motorcycle engine swap could eventually be a last-case possibility.

Sometimes a smaller displacement engine may not be so optimized for fuel savings. Since both versions share the same bore, but the 1.2L has a longer stroke, it may fare better when it comes to low-end torque, allowing you to either keep it at higher gears with less RPM or eventually swap taller tires in case the original 13-inch ones become harder to find.

On the right is a Hybrid Synergy Drive single-speed no-cylinder drivetrain. Batteries not included. (on the left is a 36hp case I just found out is worth $750-2000)
I should probably sell the Lexus motor (I didn't get enough of the parts around it, cables, spreader bar). They currently sell for US$200-400.
