Which one? That 2-stroke actually developed by Orbital Engines but which was tested into some Ford Fiesta and Ford Aspire test mules?

"Recently a Ford engineer noted an outside rear-view mirror increased drag by 1 pound at 65 mph and increased fuel consumption 0.05 miles per gallon. To carry this mirror on a 1,000 mile trip would cost you seven cents, the consequence of air drag."

What car was this on? Do you know? Surely a rear-view mirror from a focus would not have as much of an impact as say an F150.

They didn't say in the 1st article, but back then, they may have all been the same regardless of model. And they'd be pretty crude in 1962.
For the second article,it was of course the Ford Probe IV concept car.
