I have a hybrid crossover, gas SUV and a gas Hyundai Elantra. What I wish I could find would be a new hybrid with a manual, but I don't know of any. Longer term, if I convert to solar power production at home, good chance that happens within the decade, I might switch to an electric car with a higher battery range, preferably about 300 miles by then, if not more, and with basically "free" charging at home my vehicle costs should be lower in retirement.

Just curious why you'd need such a long range from an EV? Do you do a lot of longer distance traveling?

I'd just keep one of the gassers around for the long distance.

In the next decade I expect my next drive will be that Silverado - though it'll be converted to EV and the rear would be put to use with solar panels. It'll be unstoppable.

I went looking at the '18 Prius Prime! I just couldn't drop 30K with all the good old Prius out there! So my '08 Prius with 278k now has a baby sister, a '08 Prius with only 91K! I think I'll give the baby sister to my wife and zero in on the 300K mark with my daily driver. Slow but sure!

Assumption 1) I'm still alive and have a driving license
Assumption 2) the roads we presently use aren't pot-holed and overgrown with weed trees

I think the biggest change will be all bio-fuel - petro-fuel will simply price itself out of the market for two reasons
1) cost of production and shipping is way high
2) continuing pressure to get to zero fossil carbon emission

and possibly the use of petroleum will shift to high value products when cheap bio-fuel is available

I don't think there is good evidence that biofuels will be price competitive; not in a decade timeframe anyhow. Currently biofuels are heavily dependant on petrol for cultivating it, and fertilizers and pesticides.

I'd like to see petrol consumption decrease, but it doesn't seem likely to me considering an increasingly wealthy planet.

Ten years from now I'll probably finally finish the Firebrid... just in time to start installing an EV conversion kit that will be offered for an "old" Prius.

Funny about the Silverado since I will be pulling a 13K lb RV with my turbo-diesel pickup and working to get the best fuel mileage I can (air deflectors, bed cover mods, modification of hitch pinbox closer to truck cab, etc.). Have already modified the truck and getting at least 20% better fuel mileage when not pulling by lowering it and adding an extended lower air dam, bed cover, turbo inlet mods and lower restriction air filter with cool air intake and computer tweaks.

In 10 years? Right now I commute 135 miles a day, 6 days a week! In 10 years I hope to be retired and walking 1/2 block to the beach leaving my 2020 Prius in the drive!
