Mild Hybrid - DIY EV Conversion Motor?

Hello,
I've been reading for some time, but this is my first post. I really enjoy this creative community!

I was reading random things on the internet when the thought came to me that the motor/generator from a mild hybrid like the Ram eTorque could be used for a DIY EV motorcycle or light vehicle.

A CNET (ref. "2020-ram-1500-laramie-4x4-crew-cab-5-7-box-review") article indicated that the system adds 16 hp and 130 lb-ft of torque. The system only uses 48v, so DIY friendly (not hundreds).

Has anyone else had this thought? Does anyone know if there are already threads on this?

BTW, I'm a ME, not EE or Programmer, so I don't know about the details about how to make it work, once connected.

I would love to hear what others think.

Bunches of threads regarding this on DIYELECTRICCARS, but I haven't seen one completed yet which isn't an indication of anything.

Which way are you leaning: GM starter alternator or motor drive line attached?

The only flaw I can imagine with using that motor would be if its rated for continuous use. I'm not real familiar with them, 16hp but 130lbft... does it have a gear reduction?

The 130 is due to the pulley ratio between the motor and the engine. It's rated at 49 ftlbs...which is still nothing to sneeze at!

Controlling it would be the problem. You'd either need to be an electronics/programming whiz, or else need to source out your own inverter/controller.

It driveable with a toy airplane high voltage/current 3phase controller, so anything chinese of sufficient current and voltage would work.

like a golf cart controller.

Only problem is...a high(enough) voltage & current BLDC controller is a couple of grand, at least...

Brushless?

My $100 80a peak/40a cont. 100v peak controller was a steal, as far as I am concerned.

Plain DC motor controllers come in that price range.
