I tried to watch the episode, but they don't have it on Discovery.com as a full episode. Looks like I didn't miss much based on everyone's thoughts. Was there at least anything worth watching about it?

Ive been approached by 2 diff people about this episode. The info should be revisited with a rep from here or an auto maker or something.
Perhaps we should petition them for clarity and closure.

I can't believe there are people out there than think they can modify their vehicle & driving habits to double their mileage. How absurd! Next thing you know, there will be some wacko out there claiming he can get >40 mpg out of a fuel-guzzling 3+ ton 15 mpg truck. How laughable!

Advertising doesn't care what the content of a show may be, only that one consume it in entirety . . as with a pressed meat filler in a white bread sandwich. TV is for the stupid, and nothing will change that. Rather the same for "smart" phones where the "owners" pay an outsized monthly fee to funnel yet more advertising to themselves.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the Mythbusters show--even if I disagree with them sometimes.

Probably my biggest beef with the hypermiling evaluation is that they were hypermiling a route that they'd only ran once before in a car that was new to them. Hypermiling isn't just something you can jump into a new car and drive a new route and get it right--it's a fine art that takes years of practice to perfect. What they did would be equivalent to me picking up a violin and attempting to play it for an hour, then concluding that it's impossible for violins to create beautiful music.

Excellent analogy. I like Mythbusters too, even though they clearly can't be experts in everything. Who could?

There is no bigger fan of Mythbusters than I am. I've listened to hours of Adam Savage's talks on YouTube, where he does a lot of work in the skeptical community.

But I do feel like they did a shoddy job with this one.

Honestly, I think that is a myth that they need to bust, then we can ask "If that did not work, why would it work with hypermiling?
