New Member looking for hybrid to classic examples

Hi There!

I saw an example on YouTube of just such a project and the build thread link led me to this site! Then I found another one which I had lost the trail on at ClubLexus and it too was here! These are relatively old threads, but i look forward to finally learning from those who have gone before!

I have just completed an EV conversion of a 1961 Volvo PV now EV544. It can be viewed under jclars at DIYelecrtriccar.com build forum.

I am now starting a conversion of a 1950 Plymouth Business Coupe to a hybrid using a 2007 Lexus GS450H I got at a salvage auction.

I am looking forward to diving into this forum!

John

Edit again - first was to learn how to post images from a PC (non URL) Second is which forum would be the most logical for a DIY hybrid conversion?

Thanks!

Which ones did you find? 1946 Chevy Prius Truck? Hybrid Hot Rod 2.0 - The Pria Ghia?

Will the Plymouth be a body swap or a drivetrain swap? Does the GS450H have a driveshaft or electric rear axle?

Hi Freebeard!

I am looking at both options and may not know until I have bodies removed from both cars, sitting side by side. I am leaning toward drivetrain swap however, as I have performed those on ICE transplants before.

It is a rear wheel drive via drive shaft, which was the first determinant in qualifying candidates.

John

Oh - the other example was the Pontiac Firebird which I traced from ClubLexus when he disappeared after not being able to find a Lexus.

Now I see you have to post 5 times to allow image attachments. I can't seem to answer in one post anyway, so it will be easy getting to 5. (Am I there yet?)

The other example I followed from being featured on YouTube was the 46 Chevyota. What I noticed he had done was meld (or rather weld) the unibody to the truck frame rails. This is a real possibility for my build as well and hope to gain insight into how he accomplished that.

It looks like I answered my own question about where to post my build thread, so I will meander over to the Hybrid depart, hopefully with enough posts logged in to attach a pic or two.

Since this is closest to a current EV bodyswap thread:

With a cab-forward design and a boat tail, this could be viable. Sixteen feet is short for a motor home.

Well, not exactly a body swap, more like a body frame and wrap! Very interesting concept, especially as states are starting to prohibit motorhome/RV sales!

AFAIK there is no explicit prohibition on motorhome/RV sales.

But maybe, a retrofit similar to what you're willing to do with your Plymouth may be also suitable to a small RV too
