I want to totally leave fossil fuels behind, in say 4-5 years. And having an EV is the best first step.
Amen. So say we all.

I put enough solar on our property {6.81 kW ground mounted} so we converted from a 77% efficient natural gas furnace to a 19 SEER/ 10.2 HSPF central unit. We still make more than we use, but as soon as the Prius is paid for and a longer range, sorta' affordable EV is available, I'll be driving on sunshine. At least, that's the general plan.

I hope it continues to work amazingly well for you and that it encourages some of your neighbors to go electric.

I just posted our worst charge this morning, of 16.6kWh / 44.775 miles (corrected distance):

370.74 Wh/mi
90.82 mpg (US)
109.21 mpg (Imp)
2.59 L/100 km
1.1 gal (US)/100 mi

Terrible!

My spouse and our neighbor commuted together. So, a ~32MPG car going the same distance, and a train ride with a ~8 mile drive in a Golf TDI to and from the train station were combined into this.

My neighbor wants to know more about owning an electric car.

I've done worse, my volt came in around 511 wt/hr per mile while very cold and deep slush a while back.

Normally I am sitting right around 300wt/hr a mile lately, good thing electric is free, I can charge at work and my trip is short. That and I am using heat/preheat now (never did before but the battery heater kicks in if I don't)

That can't be right Awesome figures otherwise. Electric is most definitely the future.

For the benefit of Google: "YKYAEMI" means "You know you're an Ecomodder if ..."

If anything, these numbers are a bit too low, because the JuiceBox Premium is slightly over-reading the kWh, because it is based on a one-time voltage reading. But it does include the losses between the plug and the wheels.

I agree that EV's are the future. I cannot think of a way to be more efficient; other than lowering the aerodynamic drag. The drivetrain is paramount, and nothing beats an electric drivetrain.
