OK, so now I spent some real, honest-to-goodness, hard earned, difficult to come by, $$$$$. No skimping. The real deal. NEW. With warranty. BATTERY CHARGERS!!!! Yes, I, the ultimate tightwad, the under $500 conversion guy, has purchased something. And it wasn't even at the farm supply store. Their feelings will be hurt. I got 6 Duracell 12 amp battery chargers:

Duracell 6, 12, 25 Amp Battery Charger | Duracell

I think I'm commited to seeing this project through now. I'm out a whopping $117.20 for those things! I think I just doubled my budget so far!

They were $18 each. Had to buy 6 (one for each battery). Oklahoma state tax is a ridiculously high 8.517%. So 18*6= $108.00 * 8.517%=$9.2 for a total of $117.20

I bought them at Big Lots. Looks like you have one in Shoreline, WA at
15403 Westminster Way North
Here's the ad:

Store Ad - BigLots.com

It's on Page 3. Call first though: I had to call about 10 stores before I found one that had 6....

This thread is great! Zip tie to hold the motor, awesome! That'll serve as a good motor overtemperature indicator. When the zip tie melts that means you are running your electric motor way too hot!

I'm glad to see you moved up from a 1/16 inch adapter plate to a 1/4 inch steel adapter plate. That extra mass will help give the front wheels more traction in the snow. It's also a good start on the 1/4 steel scatter shield you'll need for racing! You just need to wrap a 1/4 inch thick steel band around your adapter plate such that it covers the clutch parts. Hmm, while we are at it a steel band like that around the brushes is a great idea, too, to catch flying comm bar and brush parts from when you overspeed the motor by going max acceleration down a steep hill. If you make the band tight enough, it'll keep dirt and water out of the motor, as well as cooling air molecules. Again, that extra mass will give you better snow traction, and will slow your acceleration on the level, making overspeeding the motor less likely. The mass will make the motor overspeed more quickly down hills, though, so exercise caution.

Standing in front of the car when connecting a jumper cable maximizes the chance you'll notice you forgot the car in gear when it lurches towards you. Fortunately you have several built in safety stops:
  • Knock you over, tangling you with the cord and pulling the clamp free of the battery
  • Flip you into the motor compartment, enabling you to grab the shifter mechanism and put the car in neutral
  • Stop by ramming into the other car used for volts 13 to 24
  • Go far enough to tauten the cable, pulling it free, unplugging the car
  • Test the home's hurricane resistance if the car was in reverse

I've reached a weird point in my conversion. I'm actually feeling pretty good about the adapter plate: like if a REAL motor were there, this thing might actually WORK! And also, there really IS room for batteries even WITHOUT using the trunk and backseat: I just discovered it while looking at where I would put the chargers. So I'm even MORE anxious to explode that tiny Baldor so I can shoehorn in a monster motor. Seeing this video didn't help:

That car is cruising along at 80. I don't think I could do that with the ICE in it.....

My batteries are like capers: they taste great in veal piccata. No wait, I mean they are non-pareil.....
