The faster warmup is more pronounced when it's colder, and the denser winter air means any aero benefit is, too.
I've been loving the faster warmups.

I finally did a block of my 2013 Passat, but it's nothing I can show you because I put it behind the grille. It's just two pieces of flashing sitting in the frame member behind the bumper. I got the info on how to remove the grille here:

It was just too difficult to try to find a cover for the outside that did not look seriously oogly. I understand it is not quite as effective aerodynamically. I suppose I could always tape some plastic on the outside there temporarily, for a long trip.
The bottom grille is just an area where I use some of that almost black gorilla tape, which allows me to adjust the opening size easily.

Yeah, I got one of them VW's and the grille is something to do an interior pasting to.
Installed some of the flat pieces of "cutting" board plastic that are thin and come in all kinds of colors, I had yellow(free), it can't really be seen.

It turns out there is an aftermarket shield for this car:
2012+ Passat NMS Winter Front - NMSPASSAT - IDParts.com
It's aimed at faster winter heating but probably works for aero too. Might look a bit strange driving the car with this on during the summer though.

I drive with mine all year. only jumps to 210 in stop and go.

I do not know about stop and go with mine, but it would start overheating if I kept up with traffic and\or was going up a hill, but it gets warm here in Arizona.
I still have not fixed my bumper, but I will close the opening that I cut in it. We will see what that does.
