Hi Darin,

Yes, it'll be a family event for us. My wife will be my navigator and my son will cheer for the team!

A friend of mine has agreed to be my navigator for this event this morning. I will now get the black Sentra out of storage and put it back on the road. Then I can start working on installing a digital odometer for my navigator.

That sounds like a great time, good luck to all of you that will be competing. But I have to ask, do the promoters realize that's the same weekend as the F1 Canadian GP?

Well a few of us are now firming up plans to attend this [in my opinion] very interesting challenge. As stated earlier in this thread Martin will be competing in his VW with his family as the navigation team. I have firmed up plans with Steve McKelvie to participate in my Sentra, and it appears that Darin will navigate for Will, [hopefully] in Will's newly completed CRXFi project car.

So there are already three Ecomodders teams poised and ready!

I understand navigating is key in this kind of rally. No pressure! I'm sure it'll be a learning experience (if Will gets the CRXFi done).

If they are enforcing speed limits, then the timing can't be too hard to manage? It also means that instead of EOC, you gotta' use the engine to brake, instead.

I'd imagine you have some leeway to increase your cruising speed to allow more time for DWB, right? Sort of like I do in every day driving.

That's a good point Neil. If dealing with long down hill sections, engine braking is just as efficient as EOCing because a manual trans car will be in fuel cut.

Also, as Jeff's message stated, we will not be penalized for arriving to controls early. In a "normal" tsd rally you would be. So all we have to do is stay on course and keep a decent pace. No one yet knows how the scoring "curve" will be calculated [regarding being on time, or having a better mpg]. That is what will make it so interesting!

One thing I like about my SE-R is that if we are running a very late, the car has the ability to really make up time if we need it to. Steve and I are not worried about only having a 1 liter engine.

Anyone else from Ecomodder thinking about participating?

Smile Just signed up to answer your questions...

Hi all, Jeff here from SMCC. I just signed up to the forum so that I can answer your questions and hopefully open up a good debate. The event is posted on tons of forums, but I'm sure this one will provide the most dialogue...

Actually, the date was initially chosen based on tons of other factors. Then we realised that it is indeed F1 weekend. All the better time to be in Montreal! If anyone is coming from far away and needs help with accommodations, or wants a guided tour of the events on the Friday/Sunday, etc. let me know and surely we can get you hooked up.

As for the event itself, I went out yesterday and ran the route to validate the instructions and timing. I had a GREAT time. The rally is quite a different drive from a normal TSD rally, because you're trying to be economical but at the same time fairly brisk. I couldn't be nearly as "optimal" as I was at the AMEC event in November, but I still found a nice smooth (and rather thrilling) pace through the twisty bits. Through the flat parts, there are lots of opportunities to use hypermiling techniques. I achieved 5.7L/100km without being late, without much optimisation and without any mods.

I'll post all of the precisions in a bit. For now, have a look at the updated event flyer (I can't post the link until I have 5 posts under my belt - you can find it on the SMCC website...)
