Still not to 60, but getting closer best tank so far. 51.05 mpg (100% city) not as good as I hoped for I need some instrumentation. Vacuum gauge, Mpguino something. I am not used to driving for FE. Kinda new to me yet. Getting there though.

Congradulations! 51 That's Great Just think what you were getting.....And 6 months ago did you ever think that you would get over 50 mpg out of a car on pump gas?
A vacuum gauge will slow you down and really help. It helped me alot. It is hard to break old habits.

You read my mind was probably putting this in when you wrote that post!!
I pulled the vacuum gauge off of a pump I had laying around cost $0. I noticed in my driving style I was giving more gas than needed so far, the needle dropped with just a slight touch of the gas. And I would lift foot and boom needle pops up and same acceleration, I was wasting fuel by how I drove that is for sure. Can only get better from here, just gotta match aero mods with driving technique now.

Exciting and Addictive, I can finally have an addiction that won't get me in trouble. And on your comment about 6 months ago, I was ready to burn my 6 mpg truck. Now I have a 17 yr. old car getting 51 mpg on 87 octane.
Now to hit 55 mpg then 60, baby steps. Harder than I thought.
It took me a while to get to 50MPG, but from there it only got more fun! I have nothing bad to say about Scangauge, but I prefer the raw data from a vacuum gauge myself. Now that you have that setup, I can see you purchasing one made for the car with a backlit illumination and mount. Trust me! A vacuum gauge pays for itself in a matter of weeks.
Johnny or RacerX do your vacuum gauges flutter like 2-3 hg while driving. Mine does while driving and about 4-5 at idle is that right? Or do I have a leaking valve guide or is just typical of our lil 3 cylinders of fury.
Mine only fluctuates at idle about 2-4HG so the needle at idle is between 18-21. It should not fluctuate while driving though. May want to check all your vacuum lines and PCV valve.

Replaced all lines and PCV about 2 weeks ago, could it be the charcoal canister or lines going to tank from canister. They are rusting pretty good, stupid Ohio salt.
Went out and checked idle reading bounces from 17-20hg. Sounds close to yours.

My gauge flutters between 16" to 19". It's steady under load and on decel..... "3 cylinders of fury"....HAHAHHAHAHA.
