Tesla robo taxi drag?
Anyone know the drag coefficient on the new Tesla robo taxi? Looks like their most aero vehicle. Full wheel covers and mini boat tail and more rounded front

Anybody watching the We, Robot dog & pony show?
They just rolled out a 20-passenger robot bus that makes the Cybertruck seem 'normal'.
edit: The RoboTaxi has single hinged butterfly doors that almost doubles the vehicle width when open. They're 40% of the vehicle length and open diagonally, the hinge is right above the wheelwell.
They have the Optimus robots cage go-go dancing.

"why no 4-seater?"
Model 3 and Y can also work as robotaxis Or the robobus so you choose which car you will need based on your head and luggage count.
My post and estimates on Linkedin
#tesla hashtag#robotaxi is coming and it's hashtag#aerodynamics look great.
-No mirrors
-teardrop roofline
- pretty low ground clearance
- tight wheel arches
- hard to say the wheel and tire size yet but looks little narrower than model 3. -->Front 215/60R18 --> rear 225/60R21 wheels and tires from continental
- fully closed wheelcovers
All this should lead to Cd around 0.20 range - +0.01 tolerance. No mention of that yet. I can give better estimate when I see some closeup videos on the car from the event. The impact ofcourse is that you can use smaller battery and make lighter car.
I would say the robotaxi will use a lot of underside body parts from model 3 as the size seemed to match more that vehicle.
The fully closed wheelcover makes it possible to design a very ligth wheel as looks are not so important, one of the reasons why my wheelcovers are also fully closed.
what is hurting aero is no tire spats.
Air curtains are a mystery but I guess they are there same way as model 3.
Those wheels and tire could have been smaller.
Roofline is within few mm from MB EQXX roofline.

Today I walked to the pharmacy and back. When I watched a Tesla make a left turn in front of me I noticed the driver had a hand on the steering wheel. Something new to think about. I also saw a Starlink antenna in a back yard within a block or two of where I first saw a Cybertruck a month ago,
I'm having to reevaluate my land line only stance. Three reasons. - Starlink direct to cell is coming.
- You won't be able to hail a robotaxi from the curb and pay cash.
- Rob Braxman is taking preorders on a $279 de-Googled cell phone

It's about the robotaxi, but mostly the chips and data collection and service. Plus a dig at Waymo.
FSD means 10x the miles per years so chips need to be more robust. Their 5th generation chip will be 10x as powerful.
I just like her voice.

The car that will crawl around on city streets, a taxi, should prioritize occupant comfort, egress, interior room. If this is a taxi it's size and shape is dumb. If this is the new model 2 for general population use then it looks great. Just put some normal doors on it, a steering wheel and controls, and send it.

Average occupancy is 1.4 passengers.

Taxi Service Characteristics and Involvement in Road Traffic Accidents ...
Study data show that the number of revenue trips served daily is 18.64 per taxi vehicle. The average occupancy per trip is 1.40 passengers (MOC study [8] found this occupancy 1.20 and Al-Gadhi study (1994) found it 1.52). In addition, this study found that, on average, the taxi vehicle operates 6.7 days per

On it's own maybe inadequate, but once you get to 4-5 passengers the robovan takes up the slack.
City streets or freeways?

I agree with you, but let's explore some possible reasons for this situation.
Assume this is the Model 2, but a fully automated version.
Assume a taxi as a revenue maker can fetch a higher sale price.
Assume a Model 2's demand could not be met for a while, this buys time.

If one or more assumptions are correct, what we see makes complete sense.
Otherwise a shape similar to one of Canoo's projects would make more sense.
EDIT: Aren't taxi's expected to carry luggage?
