Hub Motor as fully active, in wheel suspension:


This would mean everything that is unsprung weight, except the rim and tire moves over to better than sprung weight. That's a decrease in unsprung weight of what? 70%?

There's a decrease in total weight too and an increase in space where the suspension used to be.
Think about how much more aero you could make the underbody if you could 'put cloroplast over those suspension wells'

The motor not being shaken around would make it more reliable and freer of weight constraints.

So what would happen if one combines these 2 ideas!??

I kinda get the three motors, but the steering perplexes me.

IIRC you do still get electrical braking without a battery somehow.
Its in one of the videos on the Freegen hub.

As any ecomodder will tell you NOTHING is as efficient as freewheeling...
So ye; Freegen will add range to any like setup without the freewheel.

Then, if the electrical system 'lets out the magic smoke'; you can pedal it home without any 'cogging' drag' like any ol stock bicycle.

The other advantage is that the brakes continue to work and feel exactly as they always have.
ie:
If you fitted this to your grandma's dear old model T or whatever she would be none the wiser till the stopped to fill up.

Another advantage is that ALL the regen torque goes through the brake disk and calliper.
Axel torque in one direction then the other tends to loosen wheel nuts and generally cause problems.

Ye; it's a too clever solution looking for a problem really.
The only real advantage I can see is the ability to enclose the outside of a steered or front wheel.

I dont think so. I think they dump power or somesuch IIRC.

But yes, a great idea. And those should be at scrap yards by now.
Pity they're so low voltage. (25V IIRC)
Perhaps they'll work in series!?
