Typical Murrican Family Spent Over $4000 on fuel in 2011

my 2012 gas costs have been $915 - free gas with rewards = ~875

Used 1104 L [292 gal US] fuel, traveled 26,000km [16,160 miles] todate in 2012. At around $1.10/L that is $1214.4/year to date. About 10 months out of 12.
And I drive more than average, mostly Highway, my aim is at less than $1000/year.

Total receipt price of my petrol from 1st Oct 2011 to 1st Oct 2012 is £973 which is $1570 USD at today's exchange rate. Mrs A's fuel is 90% company so based on the receip price about £194 is for family use = $313 USD.

So the total is $1883 as a family.

I own no truck, have no incidental need of a truck and therefore do not keep a truck at home for "hauling stuff" or "towing", these are the only cars we own.

Despite paying 7.663 USD/gallon for gas, I'm still below half the US average at 1924 USD (1 year period); some 15000 miles, and just one car to do them all.

Do the figures for fuel include non-transport uses ? For example a lot of murricans use petrol lawn mowers or power tools of some kind but most (here in Blighty anyway) use corded or rechargeable tools and plug in electric mowers.

$345 and 13000 miles. I don't count the electricity I used because I replaced most of our incandescent bulbs in our house with led's and cfl's so our electricity bill has gone down about $20 per month even with plugging in the Volt.

Year to Date, $1889.77 and have traveled 15906.6 miles. This is split between an 08 matrix and 02 F250. I suspect we'll easily hit $2500 by years end since were driving the truck south next week, we're scared of snow
