Question --- What Experiments Do You Want To See? ---

I am going to try and transfer into MIT next school year and I need to do some research papers in order to hopefully get in. Since my major in engineering, and I plan on speciallizing on cars, I am going to do some experiments.

Here is what I have so far;
- Speed vs MPG (55, 65, and 75 mph)
- Aero Drag from Wheel Spoke Design (Using university wind tunnel)
- Tire PSI vs MPG (24, 34, 44 psi)
- Weight vs MPG (At constant speed i.e. highway driving)

The ones yall have provided so far;
- "Effects of gasohol (gas with 10% ethanol) vs. reg. gasoline in terms of which gets better fuel economy and which emits more green house gases every 1000 miles"
- "Fuel Temperature vs. MPG"

What else would yall like to see now that I am at it?

Effect of larger diameter rims. If you keep the outside diameter of the tire the same, is it more efficient to have more rim/less tire, or vice versa?

Of course you have to make sure you have similar rim/tire composition.

^^ Thats a good one, I dont know how I could measure that though without having to buy a whole set of rims; kind of hard and way to money consuming

If you figure it out how to do it in a small scale model (like the wind tunnel thing) let me know...

I could think of others, but I too am writing a paper (not a research paper though) and need to finish it first

Effects of time, fuel and maintenance changes (statistical and intuitive) on experiential route decisions.

That is, finding the fasted route by time traveled at posted speed limit typically fails when the driver knows his or her city and can make judgment based on date, time of day, etc. It would require many different routes in addition to each route being timed/recorded - then, to get any statistical reliability, many many many passes hopefully with similar driving styles. This probably wouldn't work in suburban areas where the best route is obvious by looking at a map - an optimal area to test is a dense city space.

Or take mine.... which will be titled something like
An analytical and empirical study on modifications to notch back vehicles.

-----
That said, shouldn't you have already applied by now? I remember applying for college - and had all my paperwork in before I started senior year of high school.... I got accepted and knew where I wanted to go my second week of my last year of high school... Which was an awesome feeling

Two word answer: Research grant.

You don't say what year you're in, but if you're transferring as a junior, you should look at the faculty interests, find those in that general area, and talk to them about funding possibilities.
