'08 Chevy Aveo ???

Anyone here have or had an Aveo5 from '07-Present? How is/was the reliability?

I'm looking at an '08 Aveo5 5-speed hatchback with a clean carfax with maintenance records 137,000 Miles on the clock the dealer just dropped the price over the weekend $1500 to $3500... The big question is it worth it? or will reliability make this a nightmare with 25-30k Miles per year?

I had an '05 Aveo, 5 speed manual base model. It was definitely not the highest quality vehicle, and thats putting it nicely. I prefer my '99 Metro. However, mine was horribly beaten by what seemed to be a single mom and a messy kid (found so much junk in that car). She eventually sold it when she snapped the timing belt and put a hole in the block. I got it cheap and resold it after dropping a new engine in and running it for half a year. During that time I averaged mid 30s to lower 40s with real mild ecodriving, and a fair amount of highway (55 mph). My fuel log is here: http://ecomodder.com/forum/em-fuel-l...vehicleid=3955

That being said, they are cheap cars that get okay mileage. There are certain things that tend to wear out on them, but its really not that bad if you know how to do a little car work. Darin put together an great list of things to look for when buying a used one here: What to watch out for when buying a used Aveo

A good reason to get an Aveo (or any car, I suppose) is if it's a screaming deal and in decent shape.

Otherwise, I'd look for something more efficient, personally.

EPA ratings for the '08 Aveo 5-speed is 24 City, 27 Combined, 34 Highway.

Not horrible, but it doesn't even qualify for our 35+ mpg highway $1500 beater list.

Here's my experience with an Aveo: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...mpg-24988.html.

By the time I returned it, I had put 800 miles on it and averaged 36 MPG. And the other rear wheel bearing failed.

06 Canyon: The vacuum gauge plus wheel covers helped increase summer 2015 mileage to 38.5 MPG, while summer 2016 mileage was 38.6 MPG without the wheel covers. Drove 33,021 miles 2016-2018 at 35.00 MPG.

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.
