The Tesla Model 3 Long Range weighs 3814 lbs. Which is quite reasonable for a 5 seat sedan.

I really wish Cadillac and all the other dinosaurs of car makers would catch on to this thing called aerodynamics. Seems like they downright refuse. Interesting to note a Cadillac CTSV in comparison to the P100D is about 1/3-1/4 as fuel efficient.

Look underneath a modern Cadillac and you'll see a lot of attention has been paid to paneling, air dams, and wheel strakes. So they do think about it, but the end result you see is always the result of negotiation between accountants, designers, and engineers.

I’d wager most cars don’t really leave the major metro areas. Aero has its place, but it’s not foremost for utility.

A highway vehicle averages 40-mph or better. I’d bet most car owners are at 25-mph.

For all the yakkity-yak about aero mods & stunt driving, charting average mph is first on the list. Other than this isn’t serious for FE improvements.

What are the interstate highways for I would have to ask. I can see how someone living in Fort Worth might feel this way but they would be ignoring the experiences of millions of Americans who don't live in highly built up urban areas like Fort Worth. I think there may be quite a few Model 3 drivers who might like a 440 mile range.

You aren't wrong. Around Jonesboro the Prius is averaging 27 mph over like 9999 miles per the trip computer.

This has little to do with the potential vehicles have for getting higher mpg e on the open highway. In point of fact our mods would flip the usual poorer mpg e performance EV's get on the highway as compared to their city mpg e ratings. Also the ability to make a whole days of driving without needing to charge until you reach your destination is of significant value.

It isn’t the range. It’s the conditions.

Time spent at a speed where aero benefits are real. Versus killing the utility of the box shape. The trade-off.

That depends. About the only time my vehicles see anything remotely resembling a major metro area - heck, a minor metro area - - is the half mile between interstate exit and grocery store.

The problem really is the automakers designing for the least common denominator.

Why should anyone care if the aero is only deployed on the highway and not on the vehicle for regular daily driving?
