Gas tank size is 11.9 gal. on my xB. The low fuel light comes on with about 2 gallons remaining.

Sentra,

Please explain what "lowering my delta" means in #9 post.

Can you be more specific with the bottom to top speeds you were using both before and after your pulse & glide change?

Also, do you remember the gas mileage data for your car before and after your car's mods?

Thank You,

Rod

On my 10 mile test loop, I get about 48 mpg driving it in cruise control at 35 mph, & up to 53 mpg @31 mph. If I P&G between 25 & 40 mph, I can raise my mpg to 60 mpg & still average ~30 mph. By lowering my delta to P&G between 15-30 mph, I've managed 72 mpg on the same route.

Awesome...

I'm thinking about doing a grill block and some other mods like you have. I'm driving 99% on the freeway so the aerodynamics would really help me out.

Funny when I first saw your miles I was thinking it was nothing because I got 645.8 on a tank, but then I saw you used 10 gallons vs my 16......
and it deflated me a bit.

Sentra, that`s amazing! I don`t know what your test loop is like, but your notes mention a lot of Nevada trips. That sounds to me like a lot of Interstate 80 with a 7000 pass in the middle! Do you P&G down into the 30s even on the interstate? Do you P&G on the climbs? I also see from the notes on your log that you`re all over the west, so probably a lot of other challenges to face too. Out of curiosity, what has you running all over like that?

bdesj,

I'm an astronomy volunteer in various western National Parks, & my daughter's family lives in ABQ, so I cross the Sierras on I-80 a fair amount. I just set the cruise control to 55 mph on the climb in either direction. On the downhills, I'll DFCO where necessary to keep my downhill speed speeds <70 mph, otherwise I'm coasting in neutral.

Once I pass through your neck of the woods, I leave I-80 at Fernley and take US 50, the loneliest highway in America, where I can P&G between 45 and 60 mph safely, since I'll only get passed by 10-20 cars during the entire day.

My test loop is a sea level country road with a few hills. It's about 10 miles round-trip, with a stop/turnaround at each end. I'll be happy to show you how I do it if you're ever in the Bay Area, or v.v.

Thanks, Sentra. Most of my family is gone from there now (I`m originally from the peninsula), so I don`t get that way often any more, but I`ll drop you a line if I ever do find myself around there with extra time on my hands. Okay, so the low speed P&G isn`t what you do on the highway.

It also surprises me that you run at 55 over the passes (I know that 50 has some pretty high ones too) and still don`t kill your FE. I guess you`ve already considered it, or maybe even tried, but to get to GBNP I`d be tempted to take the interstate all the way across and then cut down. It`s flatter and even with more traffic it has two lanes each way, so people could get around. I suppose the extra miles are the down side though. Any rate, from your numbers, you obviously have a good system going. Very impressive all in all!
