16X4 Lcd with Mpguino
Greetings to all members,
I've recently ordered a freeduino in order to built a metric mpguino.
The think is that i own a lcd screen that is 16X4 instead of the regular 16X2...
It would be nice to have all the information i need in front of me but can i use the bigger lcd screen?

Since no one else has said anything yet, I figured I would at least try a tiny bit to help.
I had previously read a thread (which of course I am unable to find now), where someone had asked the same thing. Basically there are two parts:
1.) The screen has to have the same number of pins as the mpguino (it is either 8 or 16).
2.) The base code for mpguino would need to be modified to output to 4 lines instead of 2 and then re-flashed to the mpguino. I saw a different thread where someone had taken the "UINO" (base base code) and modified it for more lines, but that was from quite a few years ago.
So, it CAN be done with most of the responsibility being if the screen has the same number as pins as the PCB of the mpguino.
Sorry I don't have the links to the threads, but they are out there.

Hi,
I personally have not seen a point to add bigger screen - you see 4 values in one screen and you just flip between screens to see other values.
If this larger screen has standard 16 pin interface on top of it, then it probably works, but it needs code changes to put 8 values to one screen.

Yes, that was me asking! But my thoughts were two-fold. First, to display more values on the screen at once, so I can get a look at more without having to flip screens. Second, I was thinking of my dad, and I was considering doubling the size of all the original 16x2 MPGuino screens so that everything was larger and easier to read. Meelis was the one I asked; he's worked up some additional parameters to display.
stargazer, I'm interested to see the final product...

Goodmorning Econoram,
I am not really sure i'll use the bigger screen cause i may have a problem with space on the dashboard but i'll try to built it anyway just to help others use different size screens or graphic lcds maybe to look OEM...

No worries. Meelis pointed me to a larger 16x2 I think I might try...
