Hmm, that's an idea if I had more money and resources. It would look pretty cool.

Tonight I got a little farther on it. Weather has been nice so I've been trying to catch up on getting the wood stocked up for winter. This week as long as it stays nice I should be able to keep going with it. Hard to tell if it's really crooked or if it's just the way the flash is hitting it. But you can see how the taper follows the rest of the tail, so hopefully it ends up working alright. There's just enough room in the back for the plate, backup lights, and taillights all crammed together.

I finished the tail extension tonight for the most part. I just went the quick and dirty route to get it done, there were some seams that I would have liked to have welded to make it more presentable but this works for now. I can always touch it up later. It is just as structurally sound as the rest of the tail, you can push the whole car around just by pushing the tail. I threw a coat of paint on it to make it presentable, then put the lights and all in it when the paint was still pretty wet since it was getting very dark. Didn't get a chance to put in the sidemarkers yet. I layed out the design of the back plate in cad to get everything to fit, it was very close. Yeah I think it might be a tad crooked, but oh well.

I gotta go downstate tomorrow after work so hopefully I at least see a small gain, or at the very least hopefully my mileage stays the same.

Not yet, it was pitch black when I took the pics, and I haven't been home any time it's been light out for awhile. I also have to work late all week because the other engineers are on vacation in Hawaii, so it'll be dark when I get home. Maybe I can bring my camera to work and get a side shot at lunchtime.

But I think it needs to come off. Perhaps the added skin friction is hurting mpg? Two trips downstate and back, very nice weather, and couldn't top 38 mpg. Before that I had been getting 40 pretty easily when the weather was nice. It also feels tougher to keep going now. I also got only 33 mpg on the way to work this morning.

I'm thinking my original tail might be the little gem, any other gains will have to be up front. Thankfully I made it easily unboltable and then just poke the lights and plate back on the original tail plate.
