1992 Nissan Sentra 4 door auto Inspired by sister and

Sister has a B14 5-speed that she is regularly getting 40-50mpg without any mods. With a hip injury and wife that refused to drive my 5 speed I decided to get another car. Goal was to get a car that would get as good as average as the 5-speed car I was currently driving and had a low cost so I could experiment and mod without worry about hurting the value.

Was also inspired by this thread by blownb310

I've got another whole sheet of corrugated plastic not sure which area I am going to address next. Once I figure out what works best did have someone offer to help do it in sheet metal but I dunno I kinda like the light weight plastic. The scales I usually weigh on are broken so not sure how much weight I have taken off yet. I wanted to be more conservative on the interior so not going to be totally stripped like the man van. Still is a 5 passenger vehicle with a functioning trunk. Luckily I was able to find a B13 weight reduction thread on another site(racing purposes) Figure I am somewhere in the neighborhood of 250-300 lbs removed.

Replaced original wheel tire combo 34 lbs each with 22 lbs each wheel tire combo. Spent all day in the junk yard weighing tires and wheels until I found the lightest ones that I could find which are 13" size also like the originals. None of the 14" or 15" wheels came close to the lightness of the 13" alloys.
48 lbs of unsprung and rotational weight

20 gram lug nuts
1.5 lbs of unsprung and rotational weight saved for the set

Hosed off at least a few pounds of crud when I took the car apart

Changed out Heavy speakers to lighter ones
9 lbs difference and they sound better too.

Removed ashtray, 3 way cable, dual prong, metal brackets cd holder and collection of CDs
5lbs

Removed air conditioning and accessories to a/c system
48 lbs

Removed mirrors they where surprisingly heavy, brackets, fascia, switch, and wiring harnesses for the electric mirror controls
10 lbs

Removed washer reservoir, hoses, sprayers and pump
2 lbs

Removed spare tire, carpeting, factory tool kit and spare tire cover
30 lbs

Removed engine bay brackets, tow hooks, headlight brackets and replaced all with nylon wire ties saving 16 lbs
14 lbs

Removed rear tow hooks, brackets and bolts
5 lbs

Removed front, rear bumpers, brackets, etc
100 lbs

Removed hood, hook latch, misc hardware fenders, and replaced with corrugated plastic.
74 lbs

Using smaller battery saving
12 lbs

Removed metal battery tray and brackets then relocated battery holding down with heavy duty zip ties instead of original metal battery bracket
7 lbs

Relocated coolant reservoir for better weight distribution was originally far forward in the engine bay.

I also have a 1.63 lbs lighter axle to put in once I get some time.

So around 365 lbs and about 50 of that Unsprung and rotational weight.

never understand removing the a/c.........

are you going to upsize the tires to get lower rpm at cruise? (equals higher mpg)

Slightly from 70 to 80 but that it not going to go any higher than that. Plus I was reading another user of this type of car was getting better mpg in slightly higher RPM range. Most of the time I am cruising at just above torque converter lockup anyways.

Installed a new O2 sensor after all the cleaning I did to the fuel system. Hoping this new one (claims to help MPG) actually gets me over the 49 mpg average hump this week.

That and I put a pointed nose on the front and added more pieces of corrugated plastic to the back. Still a work in progress, have an idea for the back that won't interfere with the trunk but I will have to pick up some more corrugated plastic sheets to start working on that maybe this weekend or the next.

Also have an axle I need to change out but I gotta goto a birthday party Saturday so might not have time to do anything else.

Right now I am tired of all the attention the aero mods are getting so I am thinking of reversing them and only doing stealthy mods that get less attention from the public.
