1997 Metro Mods

I have recently purchased a 1997 Metro and am wondering what mods to do to this car. I am very interested in what MetroMPG has done to his to get the mileage he is getting.

I able to purchase a 1993 Swift 1.3 SOHC 5 speed car which from my research has a 3.53 final drive ratio which is better than the 4.39 ratio the local GM dealership told me I have.

I have already done a grill block and my tires are inflated to 45 psi, I am planning on deleting both side view mirrors and getting some mounted inside the car. I am also going to make up some rear wheel skirts when I get a chance to.

I drive 84 kilometers round trip on the highway everyday, the highway is not very busy and I keep my speed about 105 km/h. I am curious if doing a partial under belly pan is helpful with FE? I am also curious if a rear diffuser will help with the dead air space at the back of my car?

But the biggest single improvement to my fuel economy has been driving style. And specifically slowing down for highway driving. I averaged 75 km/h driving from Ontario to Nova Scotia recently (with the car fully loaded), and with some good tailwinds averaged 75 mpg (US). The aero mods definitely help, but #1 is leaving earlier & driving slower, where traffic permits.

Don't forget partial grille block and block heater will really help in the winter - especially out there on the chilly prairies. (How cold has it gotten so far? :P)

I just picked up a 97 as well. I'd be interested in suggestions as well. Anyone ever consider replacing lsi engine with an earlier efi engine?
