As foretold, the first mod is done!

First, drop the glove box down. Press inward on each side of the glove box. There are tabs on the side that act as stops.





Next, we pull out the middle connector from the ECU. That solid orange wire is the one we're after, its the camshaft position sensor signal.





Now, we cut that orange wire, and put the kill switch inline with it. Solder things up, make sure to use some shrink wrap on it, and then plug it all back together.






The kill switch works perfectly!

I had previously tried cutting into the crankshaft position sensor signal and it did not work. I just got a check engine light.

Nice. Now I can copy your work -- I actually spliced the wire in the engine compartment because I didn't have the ECU pinout at the time.

Let's see 60 mpg tomorrow!

Thanks. I actually saw 67 mpg on my ~5 mile trip back from church this evening. I was pretty psyched about that!

I also am going to have to look into how each wheel spins. I loose speed fairly quickly, even at lower speeds. At the higher speeds I figured it was (and still probably is) the not so stellar aerodynamics of the Metro. However, at low speeds I'm also loosing speed faster than I should be (faster than I remember the Paseo loosing speed). I already have the tires at 50 psi, so it must be something else. Perhaps a hanging brake or something.

I will point out that your Metro weighs 1,859 pounds and a 1,997 Paseo weighs 2,025 lbs, 146 pounds, 8.9%, which should be enough to notice.

The lighter the car the lower the sectional density, a term used in ballistics to explain how heavier (longer in bullets of the same diameter) projectiles retain velocity for longer ranges.

Basically you have less mass, with which to store inertia, and with less inertia your aero drag will slow the car down faster. Confirm this by adding passenger weight too see if coasting distances increase.

The cool thing is lowering your aero will lengthen coasting distances more that it would with a heavier car, so your aero is more important. Also less mass means the same bsfc will provide you with quicker acceleration, evidenced by your 44 mpg climbing a hill.

Thanks guys. I do expect the Metro to slow down faster than the Paseo. It just seems a bit too noticeable. So, I think I'll still probably check it out. I do hear some rubbing from a wheel, not sure which one yet, but it does seem quite light. I had first dismissed it, but it really can't hurt to check it out.

I'm already loving the kill switch. My trip in to work today was 61.5 mpg on the SG. Thats accentuated by the fact that it was only 28F out this morning too. It has been warmer out on all my other trips to work.

When I removed the shift knob, it seemed like the rubber boot was glued to the bottom of the knob? I didn't want to tear it. Is that not the case?
