The problem is: where would I still find a dedicated-ethanol (actually it was an early flexfuel) air-cooled Volkswagen with this system still working? Many owners used to remove that device. When the ProÁlcool started, dedicated-ethanol cars got some lower taxes, so it would still be deemed reasonable to get an ethanol-fed Beetle, Kombi, or Brasilia (yes, there was a car with the same name of Brazilian capital - and no, it's not Buenos Aires) and take that system off. After '96 when the Kombi started to use multi-point EFI, that device had been phased out.

Transferred the tags ($2) from my GS500E as well as the insurance. I had to fix the shifter pivot shaft, apparently they forgot to install any kind of fastener and the shifter could slide off the shaft, at least partially which made the bike hard to shift, combined with the pedal being set too high, at least for my 6 feet and weak knees. Cut a groove around the shaft and installed an outside snap ring and a washer.
Topped the tank off and rode it out on route 143 at 55 MPH, good power and smooth ride. The next few days are supposed to be good weather, I might get a fuel log entry by this weekend. Very confortable ride for me and it looks like my latest "keeper" bike ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif) yeah right.
A bike for me needs to get about 70+ MPG to justify the cost of tags and insurance over the Fiesta at 45 MPG, but that does not consider the miles not put on the Fiesta which just passed 3 years (built 11-10) age and 22k miles. As far as mods or sprocket changes, I like to wear out what's there first. It should tach about 1k RPM for every 10 MPH speed. Today I had to lower the idle speed as I rode it around, probably old fuel, but the tank is immaculate and it runs fine. I noticed a slight improvement in power as the newer fuel mixed with what was in it when I got the bike. Porbably still 40% old fuel. I have no idea how long it was in there. The seller had replaced the bike with a new Yamaha Bolt. The tires are original with plenty of tread left. 39th week of 03 dated, they can stay on the bike until they are worn out.

There was no internet when that device was fitted to the old Volkswagens. Eventually there may be some reference to it in owner manuals or workshop manuals...

Suzuki had the oil cooling pretty much sorted on their air/oil-cooled bikes (SACS).
Well, at least under 35°C ambient.
Main cold weather issue has been freezing carbs.
Reducing the airflow to the oil cooler would warm it up faster.

I remember those ones. That system was actually pretty smart and saved a good amount of weight.

A GN 250 and I assume the GZ is identical is not oil cooled !
The DR 350 is and is a pretty different design head wise !

The GX is just more of a cruiser design with more forward controls than the GN version. Engines should be identical. No oil cooler. The GZ weighs a little more than the GN. Rode it 56 miles yesterday and today. Might hit 100 tomorrow with temps getting in the 70s here but the wife has a Dr. appt tomorrow which will take away some riding time.

Actually, I saw an oil cooler setup sold in China by I am not sure it is totally fittable to older / genuine Japanese version.
It was 100 $.
That being said there is not a lot of oil in the head for this setup to help engine cooling in my very own use of the bike (engine bottom end needs some attention anyway)
