2007 4cyl Ford Ranger 2007 vs. 2008+ difference in MPG

Anyone know why there is a difference between the 2007 4cyl ranger and 2008. 2007 is rated at 23/29. 2008+ is rated at 21/26. Curious why that would be.

2008 is when the EPA standards changed. The 2007 would use the old standards, the 2008 would use the new.

Many sites show mpgs for the older vehicles using the updated standard. You can look up the Ranger here:
Fuel Economy
And it will show 2007 and 2008 as the same efficiency.
