As far as the fairing, I may make something like it but $1200 wouldn't go well with this bike.
I feel you there, I am pretty cheap myself. if you get the bike done inside your budget, maybe next year you can set up a small budget for bodywork. although, custom fairings are not cheap to build. My total project is pushing $1100 including the bike. I have been thinking about maybe refining this design to the point where I could set up tooling to make a few for those who might be interested, but I have a long way to go before that could happen. too bad you're not in MI or we could work together. two crazies could really do some damage

offalot,
on your bike, is that the original swingarm? and if so, how did you modify it?

I did the same on the Beamer before the screen was removed - drive it single handedly.

Tensing up is no good on a motorcycle.

Compensation can indeed make matters worse - driver / pilot induced oscillations have caused crashes before.

my rear tire tends to randomly lose pressure.
Have you checked it for a puncture (with the object still in the tyre) ?

Or have you had it repaired after a puncture ?
These can start leaking as you wear the tyre down - been there, done that, wobbled about a bit as well

When none of the above : check the valve (balloon and rubber band) ; check the wheel itself for small damage where the tyre is seated next time the tyre is taken off the rim.

Broke 100mpg today! I rode up to Traverse City which is about 50mi each way. I filled up prior to heading out, (I got 93.89mpg for three days driving to work and back. ) then rode 50mi to TC about 10mi in town shopping around for bike stuff, and back home. total distance 108.8mi fuel used, .97gal. that comes to 112mpg!! that includes approximately 15miles of freeway. and 6-10 miles of city/stop and go.

Congrats Ben!

What speeds were you running most of the time to get 100?

How fast will it go? I know that's not usually a question you ask about a streamlined mileage vehicle, but considering the speed requirements for the challenge it's relevant.

I was running between 55 and 60 mph on the rural highways, and 70-75 most of the time on the freeway. I tested it for wot on the freeway for about a mile and I hit 85, but then I caught up with a semi, and the freeway was ending, so I slowed down some. in town I kept up with traffic meaning I was accelerating pretty briskly. I might do a max mpg run tomorrow at 50-55mph. Also, I switched to a fixed windscreen, even though she handled pretty well at freeway speeds, I wanted to get my hands down lower. I'll post pics later. now is supper time.

It is all also relevant if one wants an indication of the aero performance of the streamlining.

That's what I've been using as a benchmark, mostly. I've added about 20mph of usable top end speed, going from a 65mph practical top speed to 85mph which is about 30% increase. the fuel economy has increased the same if not more, I was getting 70-80mpg stock, now I'm getting 95-110.

yes I changed the gearing, I have been running 16t front, and 37t rear, stock it is 15/44. that's a 20% change in gear ratio. I feel like it is a little overgeared in top gear, so I am going to play with a few more ratios with sprockets that I have, although taller is probably better.
