Grant, whatever you may take away on the uphill, you will give back on the downhill. For a car with power to spare and sticky tires, I've found that weight can be an asset. For a truly low powered car... not so much.

My earlier post on this gave locations for two stations offering ethanol free gas. Lake's Gas in Montour Falls is just a few short miles south of Watkins Glen on Rte 14 and is an ideal choice for us.

I like to flush pure gas through the car's system in advance, to clean out as much ethanol as possible before the GGP.

The Pure-Gas.org phone app is ideal if you're looking for sources near home or along your route to the GGP, or anywhere else for that matter. I checked it out on my iPhone; hopefully the 'droid version is just as good.

If you tap the "Maps" icon at the bottom of the map, it shows the stations on a map. Expand and scroll the map to see anywhere in the US. It's perfect for road trips.

Remember, some states (like my own wonderful state of CT) seem to have insurance or state regulations that end up forcing stations to charge $10/gallon or even more. The app lists phone #s for the stations, it's worth a phone call to ask the price. In NY state, you'll pay something like an extra dollar a gallon. Maybe not even that much.
