2016 Nissan Versa Note with factory smooth wheel disc
I see that Nissan has been spying on the Flea!
(From: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...aps-28214.html )
I was looking through the press photo gallery of the Versa Note, and spotted this...
What is that intriguing white disc on that car!?
Zoom!
Uniform perfection. What material is that!?
Enhance!
Interesting!
With fuel economy rules tightening, automakers are throwing all the tricks at their cars these days. Who knows... maybe the 2017 will have them on all 4 wheels!

Really? It doesn't even have the hole for the valve stem.
With all that zooming and enhancing did you crank up the contrast? If it's a uniform black, gray or white then it's a clipping object; likely, as Fingie suggests, used to display different wheels on the car.

I honestly wonder why it would be white, it would turn ugly pretty quick.

Yup.
I think somebody at Nissan photoshopped only the front fancy wheel into the image before their lunch break and didn't check their work before hitting the UPLOAD button when they got back.

But still, cars would look a lot more futuristic with illuminated smooth wheel covers

Yes, it would be nice if aero wheels were seen as "stylish" by the general public instead of the giant air blenders that are fashionable now.

Many modern rims are a nice compromise Of aero, brake cooling and dust/dirt removal

Tesla originally offered an optional aero wheel for the Model S which increased range. It was dropped due to lack of interest.

Thanks. Gives me an opportunity to post this, from Just A Car Guy:
Just A Car Guy : I remember seeing something like this done with mirrors on a maker video, the infinity tunnel, it may have been called. Making rims at SEMA do this was a great idea
If you can spin-form aluminum into Moon disks, then you can spin-form half-silvered sheet polycarbonate. Put on the outer face of a trim ring with a flat silvered inner face (possibly a small hole in the center to clear the hub) inside. All that's left is to wire up the LEDs and figure out how to get electricity to/from a spinning wheel.
Edit: Magnetize the nut that holds the wheel bearing, and the dust cap can carry a copper winding and a capacitor. They wouldn't light up until the car moves, but then persist through stop lights, &etc.
