2021 Green Grand Prix: April 9th at Watkins Glen, NY

Hi all -

Bob Gillespie sent me a reminder of this year's event:

We would love to have some ecomodders here.

For those who may not be familiar...

Welcome to the official Green Grand Prix Web Site

The Green Grand Prix is an educational and competitive event in Watkins Glen, NY including the only Official SCCA road rally that promotes entry of all road- legal vehicle types and fuels in North America. Have they found commonality among the county, state, federal, provincial, and territorial jurisdictions? Most/least restrictive, mode, mean average?

Good point!

I know of a guy who built/owns a solar car, which he can't legally drive on public roads in Ontario, but can (and has) legally driven in other provinces/states.

Here's his car pictured beside my electric ForkenSwift from back in the day:

I'm pretty sure they're satisfied if the vehicle is legally on the road.

You can study the rules or contact the organizer. Understand that the rally is on the WGI track with average speed of 45 mph. Conditions in recent years have been winter like.

Is it free for ecomodders members? Are we allowed to have an extra passenger in the car while competing, besides the navigator? I’m assuming the navigator is a representative of the event, correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks.

You can bring your own navigator. There have been EcoModder discounts in the past.

Do they have a passenger-mile index?

Unfortunately, no.

I wish I could do it this year since I had to miss it last fall. Quarantine requirements prevent it, and I won't be fully vaccinated until mid-April.

Some of the restrictions have been lifted compared to last October. I picked up a pair of KN-95 masks at Harbor Freight for $4.99 + tax.
