You need to thank the dark age monks for lousy translation of what ancient texts they had. Boats by then were generally modern shaped so they used what they understood. Wasn't a lot of improvisation allowed.

And today people find carving of Apache helicopters in the ruins of old Egyptian buildings.
The Vedic Vimana were well documented.
