You might want to look into the Ultragauge as an alternative to the Scangauge. It's cheaper. I haven't used either (niether will work effictively to get FE with my diesel), so I'm not recommending either one...just saying you should realize you have options.

The V8-496 is popular with RV'ers, not just contractors, so there will always be a buyer out there for an extra-clean vehicle that shows well . . . so don't forget that someone may want to buy it off of you at any given stop (and that might help fund the exact vehicle you want in the future).
To quote myself . . came across this thread on an RV'er board: Truck Buy Saga
A well-chosen truck (as you have) keeps its value, relatively. Book value on mine -- purchased over five-years ago -- is just $4k less than what I paid for it. IOW, depreciation isn't the monster it might be for some trucks, and any reduction of fuel costs is worthwhile as part of fixed and variable costs.

Well, what I would suggest is drop in a 6.2 diesel, and add propane injection.
I build racing stuff and hi-perf. street, one of my trucks is a 1st Gen. Cummins Turbo Diesel.
Added a DIY propane injection, went from 20 mpg to 28 mpg. A 30# propane bottle lasts me about 1200 miles.
Total cost of propane system? 120 bucks from Tractor supply, O'Reillys, and the propane gas store....Took me 1 weekend....Been running it 3 years on a 350,000 mile cummins, 91' 350D Cab and Chassis with flatbed.

Do you have a write up/instructions for this? I'd be interested in taking a look.
