Not long after I moved here, I walked to a casual job, and then was a bit puzzled that the hardware store was closing early. We were having the worst storm in 50 years.

Notes to those contemplating cycling:
Fitness improves quickly withtout much effort, especially if you are distracted by traffic instead of just your own body.
Practise bike-handling skills away from cars, but get sharp. The back brake is there to tell you when the front brake has almost lifted the back end. Use it lightly, as an indicator or emergency brake only, or as the one to overheat first on descents.
Use a helmet-mounted mirror to stay aware of traffic.
Sometimes, it is best to pace a single car, hanging just off the back corner in a safe zone.

Congrats on a short commute.

Most of the people in my town commute 35 to 45 miles each way. I hunted and found a job 20 miles away and felt fortunate. If I could find one within 10 miles, I would be ecstatic.

Nice, my commute is 8.5 miles up and down some seriously steep hills Still enjoy doing it on the bike though, but am glad to have the car there for when its absolutely miserable outside or Im just plain tired.

300m is super short! I did work once in the hospital on the next road from my flat. I could get out of bed at 8.55am to be at work for 9 haha.

Happy days
