Talking 38.28 mpg 200hp b18c 92 civic with hard driving?

Back again. In my fun car .200 hp B18c civic. I drove harder with 8500 rpm shifts merging on highway and got a new best of 38.28 us mpg. I did harder bursts with more coasting in neutral to make up for the merging 8500 rpm shifts.

When I baby it with coasting in neutral . I get 27 mpg.

Any one explain this?

Either way I'm happy.

I still never got a answer if the mpguino works with a non stock car.

It seems highly unlikely you improved your mpg by bringing your RPM's up to 8500. As for your coasting I would say this is the area you actually improved your mpg at, pulse and glide. Your 8500 rpm on the on ramp was one Big pulse

The MPGunio uses the fuel injector signals and VSS sensor. If you have both of those it should work.

As long as your car has fuel injection and an electronic vehicle speed sensor it will work, a 1992 civic uses the electronic vehicle speed sensor, so unless you removed that it should hook right up.

You've discovered by accident the key to efficient driving. I should clarify, as Ecomodded said, that 8500rpm will not benefit your FE at all. What will benefit your FE is that the ICE is most efficient at almost full throttle (ALMOST ). In practical terms you are spending less time accelerating and more time coasting, carrying more momentum as you do. On the other hand when you baby it you spend more time accelerating in a relatively less efficient engine mode.

Hope to see more improvements in the future!

I'm hoping to match this with an experiment on my next tank on George. Initially reading up on MPG the guy who seems to get the best out of his "bug" (yeah I know, same name - different car) advised upshifting at 2.5K max and a max speed of 55. However my journey to work includes a steep climb and sometimes I just take a run at it instead.

The MPG when I shut off at the other end is within 2-3 MPG of each other, which is within error / different traffic ranges to me, i.e. no difference. So on my next tank and now the engine is broken in I intend to try the higher ends of the rev range

EDIT - Forgot to mention, the 2.5K change up points leaves little marging for coasting / gliding compared to before.

And being a 3 cyl it sounds like a Porsche...

...a very very slow one.
