40,55 mpg on a VW T5 Multivan 2,0L Diesel

Hi there,

does anybody here drive a similar Volkswagen van? I'd like to know if this mileage is competitive :-)

It is my average mileage for the 10k Kilometers since I bought the car.

For the (continental) European guys and girls: this equals 5.8 litres / 100 km.

Best endurance was 45,58 mpg (5,16 L/100km). These values were always calculated when refueling.

so long,

tinduck

Those are incredible numbers. I`ve noticed you have the record on spritmonitor.de and I guess not many people worldwide can do any better than you do.
What is your driving style and which mods have you performed?

Those are amazing numbers for a "minivan". I wish I could get that in my Focus.

Those numbers will come only with the right driver.

The T5- multivan is a pretty heavy car. If it's driven in city traffic, the numbers are much higher, and the numbers tell it's a heavy car.

Still probably the best in the minivan class.

Hi there,

I am happy to hear that my endurance numbers find mercy at this court :-)

@ lowglider: shhht, do not tell anybody, but... I use the slipstream of heavy trucks quite a lot. This seems to be a source of quite animated discussions around here. Otherwise, the usual things... upshift early and a bit of DWB. No mods.

so long,

Tinduck

That's excellent.
I was doing worse with my 1.6L Diesel Volvo V50 in its first 2 years.

I see you've got a fuel record at Details: Volkswagen - Transporter - T5.2 Multivan Startline - Spritmonitor.de - ranking second among the Transporters
(sixth in the spritmonitor list, but 4 of these are frauds with bad records)

Drafting is something that should be done cautiously, but it's up to everyone's own judgment.
If I can look beyond the drafted vehicle, I don't mind doing it.

Hi there,

I am now hoping to get even better endurance values since my ScanGauge has arrived. I just did a quick-and-dirty installation job with some powerstrips and I am now looking forward to my commute tomorrow... Hopefully, with this device I can soften the impact of the cold season on my fuel consumption.

So long,

Tinduck

Hi there,

Ooooh yes, ScanGauge made my Day

Morning commute 5.4 L/100km, afternoon commute 5.5 L/100km. No congestion, but rain all the time and headlights on, so good weather fuel consumption should be even lower.

Btw, thanks for the encouragement!

So long,

Tinduck

A ScanGauge needs to be calibrated using the actual values from the refueling though.

Tip : correct only half-way toward the correct value.
