"Drives like an Automatic" is the only way I will ever get my wife to drive the Metro!

Here's roughly what I have always been shooting for: Solectria Force
It has a single-speed gearbox, just like a Tesla, only cheaper and years ahead!

How many RPMs are you spinning?

Not remembering the size of your motor I can say that 6000rpms might be a bad idea, no reason to blow your motor apart.

Generally 5000rpms is generally considered safe for most sizes of series wound motors. My little 6.75" motor is good to 6300rpms or so which on the miles is about 43mph also.

So I would recommend figuring out how many rpms you are spinning so you can determine your maximum safe speed without having things fly apart.

And yes there are those who say they can do 10k in some motor, trust me you can't be guaranteed of that.

It's a 10" motor.

I haven't been able to figure RPMs. My car has no tachometer. I tried using an add-on magnetic tach, but it didn't do a very good job counting the fins on the integral cooling fan. I wasn't able to get any consistant figures from it.

My uncle has a Porsche Carrera that goes to around 60mph in first gear. Perfect for 0-60 times people seem to care about...
