My Father just got a set of brake pads for Granny (I gave her to him) with a lifetime warranty... they said that they will not replace worn out pads under warranty anymore, unless they've come apart. We took the pads back when he told me that, then we went to the junkyard and pulled pads off other cars. Every pad we pulled was at least 90% fresh by measurement. They'll reseat to his rotors quickly.
In fact, I've done this so many times, I don't think I'm even going to buy pads anymore from retailers. I'll just keep pulling them from the junkyard for every car I come across that needs them, and pull 2-3 extra sets just in case.

If they try that on me I'll be sure they come apart if I have to take them apart myself. I paid for a lifetime warranty and it didn't say anything about the parts have to come apart. It says they are under warranty as long as you own the car.

I thought about it more, and premature wear is covered as well... who's to say what's premature?

Congrat Ford Man, mine original Honda Accord '86 is pushing 250k without any Tranny or Engine problems. The blue Accord '88 is my girls car and she is going for the 200k. Keep up with the fresh oil and filters and this little machines can roll forever. NICE

WOW man thats simple awesome! My cherokee is pretty close behind you alas thats where it will stay. 485,000 miles on the original motor. The only reason I had to replace it was that around 225,000 miles or so while 4 wheeling I sucked 1.5 quarts of mudd into the crank. How do I know? when I got home I did an after wheeling checklist and found chocolate milk on the dip stick. Drained the oil immediately and instead of 6 quarts of oio I got 7.5 quarts of mudd. Drained filled drove for 1 hours drained and filled again drove a week repeat till I was sure it was all gone.
needless to say that killed every bushing bearing and seal in the engine. I kept driving it till 470,000 miles or so. (note when I bought it the jeep had 92k on the clock)
then oil just got too expensive (I was adding 1+ quarts a day) it got to the point where I stopped changing the oil at all! I went some 150,000 miles without an oil change. every 3k I just screwed on a new filter and added my daily quart sacrifice to the jeep gods.
whenever I would hear it starts going tap tap tap I would just pull over and dump in a quart until the next day :-) hehe
I could lube ANY trailer from to back just let me tow it a few miles. No joke :-) it got hard as hell keeping the rear window clear as oil is hard to wash off :-) It also means except for 2 tiny holes in the floor pan (rusted from the INSIDE out not outside in) I have absolutely positively 100% ZERO rust anywhere on the bottom of the entire truck. I mean REALLY no rust or corrosion of any kind. all nice and oiled. :-) hehe
why not rebuild it? well I had a donor jeep an 88 wagoneer (same exact vehicle just wood panel stickers and quad lights) it was cheaper to yank the 2 motors and swap in the virgin motor from the wagoneer since it only have 119k on the clock.
runs like new :-) the vehicle now has 493,000 miles on it. I don't think I will ever get rid of it. I am really attached to it and unless someone offered me real money for it (never going to happen) I have zero incentive to get rid of it.
alas because of fuel econ and lack of fund I don't drive it very much. My metro gets all the miles now.
I have NO doubt. "0" doubt whatsoever that a million miles is possible on a well taken care of well designed engine. Especially the 4.0's and apparently your little motor too. 502k man thats just PURE AWESOME.
Keep putting on the bondo man. bondo won't kill your car the rust will. keep some rattle cans handy. get the color "close" and you won't really notice from 10feet away.
My dad had a 88 Ford Cargo Van E150. we put 450,000 miles on that one too. Original Engine NO REBUILD. in fact the only reason we stopped using it was cost to maintain it. Bolt snapped on the PS and the tranny died again. He eventually got another one. We have had half a dozen of them go over 300k without batting an eye and only get rid of them for anything BUT engine failure.
it got to the point on that van where it really did take TWO of us to steer it if we were at a stand still. I mean you REALLY had to muscle that wheel. Once above 5mph it was easy but from a stand still Forget it. :-) hehe
One day I will convert my cherokee to electric then MILLIONS of miles will be possible.

503,000 A great way to end the year. I'm afraid the car isn't going to last much longer if I don't quit hitting deer with it. I hit the second one in about 2 months with it Tuesday morning. The first one I didn't see, but was only going abut 35 MPH when I hit it, and the one I hit Tuesday morning I saw in time that I had slowed down from about 50 to about 30-35 MPH on impact. I've really been lucky on both occasions with the only damage being raising the bumper about 1 inch on the passenger side.
