Woa. I had a 1987, and at 137,000 miles, it blew blue smoke out the tailpipe. Same 1.9 I believe. I was hard on it, but still...

That's incredible!

What was your average oil/filter change interval? Also, when did you start adding the Slick-50 and were there any other additives or cleaning procedures (AutoRX or Seafoam)?

You need start collecting 100,000 mile badges like this Volvo guy...

Keep on goin'!

Half a million miles is staggering, congrats!

It's amazing what a well-maintained car with an under-stressed engine and drivetrain can manage. I keep hearing stories of taxi drivers in the UK finally trading in their VW Passats and Skoda Octavias when they're hitting 400k, 500k, 600k miles... part of me really wants something like that with monster miles just to see how far it can really go and how it feels with that kind of useage...

The average oil change interval has probably been 4-5K miles. I started using Slick 50 or similar product every 50K miles when it had 150K miles. I just started using LC-20 (4oz at oil change and 1 oz every 1K miles) in it about 30K miles ago. Their recommended change interval is 10K miles. Since I started using it I've been letting it go 10K miles between changes and haven't seen any negatve effects. I also started using 1 bottle of STP or similar product at every oil change several years ago to try to keep oil consumption to a minimum.

High mileage blend... LOL.

(I really don't know, but it seemed fitting.)

500k, pretty cool. My vehicles have between 200k and 300k. I don't doubt they would make it to 500k if I could keep the rust under better control. The trailing arm attachments on the wagon are going to need some welding this summer, 2nd car I've had to do that to. Had to weld up a hole in the engine cradle on the van, and will have to do the same to the wagon this summer too. Had to weld up major holes in the wheelwells in the van a couple years back too. I refuse to drive the Celebrity in the winter to hopefully keep it from rusting away as fast.
