'89 Cherokee boggs down/dies when turning left?

My little brother found a good deal on a Grand Jeep Cherokee. When the vehicle gets turned left, it either boggs down or dies. Anyone know what the problem might be? My little brother told me to ask 'all your crazy gas saving friends and that one mechanic you know' (referring to Old Mechanic haha). Any help would be appreciated.

is it carb'd or fuel injected? if it's carb'd, i would check the fuel level in the float bowl. a low level can cause fuel starvation on corners due to insufficient fuel coverage of the jets.

only other thing i can think of is a problem in the power steering pump. maybe the valves that are supposed to open when turning left are stuck closed, causing the pump to bind, which creates resistance for the crank pulley. might be a long shot, not sure. if the power steering pump is run off its own belt, it would be easy to test though since all you would have to do is remove the belt and go for a drive.

Check the engine to battery ground - it or may be loose or have a bad connection.

True story:

My next door neighbor in St Pete had an old crappy old baby blue early 60's sedan she named "Aldo". She named all her cars Italian names, but Aldo was special, because Aldo was not an ambi-turner. Aldo didn't like to turn left for some reason, so every time she drove it, she mapped out a route where she would only have to make right turns.

She owned that car for over two years, and never turned left, not one time!

I would badge the Cherokee an Italian name, and start mapping your routes!

Ok. Serious question.

Does the engine die when its in park and turning left or just when going down the road or both ?

Prob the strainer on the end of the tank pickup (fell of or clogged). Fill it up to at least 1/2 full and see i it still does it.

You mean just Cherokee, right? Grand Cherokee didn't come out til a few years later.

According to Wikipedia, it should be fuel injected. Which engine is it?

Ok I called him, he said that at after idling for about 5 minutes it bogs down on its own then recovers, and he doesn't know about sitting idle and turning left. He said it runs good as long as you don't turn left. He is gonna use it for off-road in so yea, he needs to be able to turn left lol.

Edit. It does not bog down when idling and you turn the wheel left
