95 chevy suburban

thinking of building a building a suburban into a mileage rig.

bought a 95 today for 300 bucks - has a smashed front fender.

car is 72 inches - figure I can lower it 6 inches pretty easy. Thinking about tapering the sides of the car at the back.

Thought would be to remove one of the doors on the very back of the car, slice the top, and bring the sides together.

Anyone ever seen sucha thing?

[Sarcasm] I think for my next project, I'll get a Metro clone and build it to 400 WHP. I might give it 4WD also; would be a great winter car. [/Sarcasm]

OK, OK.
But I think a Suburban has so much going against it mpg-wise, I can't see how it would be a good starting point. Unless of course you NEED a Suburban for it's massive capacity or some other quality it has. In which case, I think I'd just give it a tuneup and pump up the tires and drive it only when absolutely necessary.

I've never seen one but if your body work skills are up to it, you should get good results.

For a $300 steal, how bad could you foul it up?

An aerolid on a pickup that tapers in elevation view is one thing but tapering in both plan and elevation - Hucho would be proud.

There are rumors that GM took a 'Burb and put a 6.2 diesel, a stick shift and 2.73 gears and got 30 MPG out of it.

See the 62-65dieselpage.com.

Or you could plug numbers into the performance calculator, changing only Cd value, and see what you might get.
