96 CX to HX swap problems

Hi, I finished my swap about a month ago. I went through a lot of changes in order to get the swap done. The car hesitates and buck while accelerating and under light throttle. Before I installed the motor, I stripped the intake mani bare and pressure washed it so the egr ports are squeaky clean. Why would the car be hesitating? Main harness is from lx engine harness is from hx. I also can't figure out why the cruise control doesn't work.

Did you ever figure this out? Probably not enough info to really troubleshoot. I am also looking to do the full HX engine swap into my CX, but I have the entire HX car to do it, so using the HX harnesses, computer, cluster, etc.

lx cluster and main harness are the same, i am using the hx engine harness. check engine light is not on. that's what makes it annoying.

sounds like your ignition coil is allowing the spark to jump through the coil's case.you could take out the coil and look for a discolored spot that looks kinda like a bulleye. my cars have done this before, let me know if you need more help.

I have been checking everything. The problem doesn't seen to be n the ignition. When I unplug the o2 sensor the bucking/hesitating stops completely. The problem is that with all the hesitating and bucking, which I assume is some kind of misfire, I get no CEL's. I get one of course when the o2 sensor s unplugged. Is there some way to check the o2 sensor without having to roll the dice. I do remember when I first drove the car I did get a code for insufficient egr lift. I took the egr off soaked it in pb till it moved freely and haven't had the problem since. Could this have something to do with it.

I posted recently in the how-to section about greasing the EGR sensor shaft - not just the valve shaft (which should probably be dry). You'll have to remove the top sensor section and make sure that moves freely as it is spring loaded.

If you experience misfires in closed loop only - Your fuel metering sensors are probably good with the exception of the EGR and O2, also you ignition should be fine since a weak ignition exhibits problems only as manifold pressure increases (higher loads). To my knowledge the EGR will not cause bucking, but going abruptly going lean will. More times than not it's the O2 especially if in leanburn.

That all I can throw at you off the top of my head with the symptoms and information you described above.

That's interesting. In the service manual, the o2 sensor is not one of the possible causes for misfire/rough running. I had a crx hf with a vx swap. Is there a how to for a lean burn sensor using a volt meter like in a vx?

I am sure there is a way to tell in an HX with a volt meter.

Or if you have a scan guage ii, do this: (I got this info from brucepick)

XGauge procedure can be set up to be a LeanBurn indicator:
Use the code below to monitor lean burn with the scan gauge II
To Monitor Lean Burn, type in:
TXD 686AF10115
RXF 044105150000
RXD 2808
MTH 000100020000
NAM LBN
When it reads zero you're in LB.

The problem turned out to be the o2 sensor. I was using the sensor from my old vx to hf swap. It turns out the sensors really aren't compatible.
