98 Civic HX finally installed

I bought the MPGuino last summer and just got busy. So, it is finally installed and it is a great tool. Thanks to all who make this available. My mpgs are already climbing by having the instant feedback.

For the install I used a clock bezel from a mustang that I found at the junkyard. I picked up a spare instument cluster bezel for the civic and then cut and mounted the MPGuino in the mustang bezel right in front of and below the speedometer. Very easy to keep an eye on while driving. The pic is from my cell phone but you get the idea.

Thanks. I started with leanburninater's settings from his 98 HX install thread. These seem to be close for fuel useage. I will continue to calibrate as I go through a few tanks. It is looking like I will be able to get consistent 50mpg now. I have hit that mark for a few tanks but never stayed there. The MPGuino is providing a lot of info for improvement.

I've got a '99 civic EX on which I'd like to install a MPGuino but I'm not sure about the injector connection. While I'm pretty competent with electronics, I only know enough about the mechanical bits of my car to get by. When I took a multimeter to what I thought were the electrical connections for one of the injectors, neither of the two terminals had any voltage. Could you describe how you made your connection to the injectors?? I think our cars are similar enough that it would help me out.

did you turn the key on? if you search around for "civic" here, you'll probably find more than one example of how someone else hooked it up. mine's a 95, so i cant tell you how to do your 99. Plus, i wired mine up at the ECU, not under the hood.

Yeah the key was in it's most forward position. I'll do some digging.

If you look at all four injector connectors at the injector you will notice that all four have a wire that is the same color, I think yellow/black. The wire that is the same color on all injectors is the 12 volt supply, this is NOT the wire for MPGuino. Then you will notice that each injector has a unique color wire and you can hook MPGuino to any one of the unique colored wires for you signal.

Yep, mobythevan is exactly right.

I found I had to CAREFULLY bare some insulatioin and solder my wire to the existing. Wrapped my own wire around the existing one a couple times for a good connection. Then wrap it all in electr. tape to close it up. I really didn't want to cut into the fuel injector wire and do a bunch of splicing. Very cramped quarters in there.

I didn't dare attempt the installation until I got tips from mobythevan. Thanks! Mine is running great now.

My installation suffered from the freezing and resets, but Bruce recommended taking the power directly from the battery through a fuse. I did that and so far so good. Originally I used the white wire from the fuse box under the dash like leanburninator, but I got a lot of resets especially with the AC turned on.
