In Feysal Ahmed Adem's Master's Thesis,he measured a drag increase when a Dodge RAM airdam was lowered below 6" ground clearance,until it got to 3" of ground clearance,where the drag went down 1%,compared to the 6" G.C. airdam.
The 3" airdam would be for racing only,completely impractical for daily driving.
Bondo had fabricated a fabulous low clearance composite airdam for his F-150,but had to raise it due to higher fuel consumption.
Hucho says never to aggravate frontal area if you can help it.
Two known exceptions are Don Burr's teardrop trailer height,and Kamm's (Fachsenfeld's) 10% width increase to add longitudinal body camber
