aerodynamic : 2008 HCH II vs 1997 Renault Megane Classic

This week I was waiting for a colleague in a parking and walked a few minutes. Back to my car I saw I was parked beside a brand new HCH II. Immediately I was surprised by all the similarities with my megane. In fact to go faster, here are the differences I noted :
  • The front is more rounded on the HCH,
  • The front/hood transition is smoother on the HCH,
  • The hood is smaller on the HCH,
  • The lower side is straighter on the HCH and
  • The trunk has a little spoiler.

Here are the characteristics I could found (megane / HCH II) :
length mm : 4129 / 4545
width mm : 1699 / 1750
height mm : 1420 / 1430
weight kg : 1130 / 1297
Cd : 0.32 / ???
FA m² : 1.99 / ???

I can't find HCH II's Cd & FA. If it's better than megane's one then very little can affect the aerodynamic.

Denis.

From Automobile drag coefficient - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and many other pages, HCH's Cd is 0.27. Not found the Frontal Area, the smallest CdA shown in this page for a Honda Civic is 7.04. With a Cd of 0.27, this is a FA of 26.1 ft² = 2.42 m². This is a lot so it must be a previous Honda Civic with a Cd of 0.31, which corresponds to a FA of 22.7 ft² = 2.11m², closer to my megane's FA of 1.99m².

Whatever the FA, a Cd of 0.27 for such a little difference with my megane which has a Cd of 0.32 is astonishing to me.

I found mine in a third part doc (RTA - Revue Technique Automibile). I looked for the wagon version but it isn't present.

On Renault's site this information is present for some cars, but not for the current megane estate.

Less frequently it can be on second hand web sites, but couldn't find it on "la centrale".

chipX, the "break" version is the wagon one : Fichier:Renault Megane Kombi front 20071025.jpg - Wikipédia

Thanks for the reply

Compared to the picture you linked, mine is the previous one, that one is megane 2.

Much less fuel thirsty in 1.5 Dci by the way !
