The 2016 Golf is reported at CD 0.24,same as today's Tesla S.
I've not seen the Golf accept in an orthogonal view but I suspect that it's also close to the AST.
Kamm's best was Cd 0.23,so automakers are getting into late-1930s aero territory with 'practical' lengths.

Well, it should take them less than eighty more years to improve on 1930s aerodynamics.

I think so.CAFE standards are a real driver for technology and aero is no-cost,off-the-shelf tech which has just languished for longer than I like to think about.
Super cars will drive the 'look' of performance. The roof-lines are already there (Bugatti).Once they begin to narrow with plan taper, the drag will begin to fall.
The luxury car segment is chipping away also.
Bentley Continental GT and 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith will be altering perceptions about 'styling' in this other rarefied market segment.
As consumers warm up to the 'weird' high-performance shape automakers will feel less skittish about pushing the styling envelope a bit further.
Interesting times!

I have never been very confident that the plan view image is correct. It was for the greenhouse, when I was experimenting with raised trunk lids. But here you go, for general review.
