I haven't updated this project in a while but I've been using this moto a lot more as I do more work on my streamliner. The utility of the aerotrunk allows me to carry 90+% of the stuff I need to do for work or running errnads. The aero benefit of the aerotrunk is proven so I usually just leave it installed most of the time.
I seem to be getting around 90 mpg. Yesterday I refuled after hitting reserve : 380.2 miles/3.97 gal.= 95.8 mpg.

Now that it's getting cold here I'm thinking about expanding my windscreen so that my hands are out the airflow. It got into 20's so my gloved hands about froze after a 40 mile ride.

I fooled around with a non-rigid trunk for a while:
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ast-18717.html

Here's a bag with taper in it already. It's got a lot of buckles on one side but can be flipped over on a motorcycle. Nice thing about this solution (if it is one) is that it probably is not going to lock you into the bike if you crash, and it is easy to jam it forward against your back. I think you might be able to put some inflatable device inside and pump it up fairly hard, but if you want to load it up with cargo the inflatable can be removed or deflated a bit to make room - then after loading, pump it up again.

Amazon.com : OverBoard Waterproof Kayak Deck Bag, Yellow, 20-Liter : Boating Dry Bags : Sports & Outdoors

For higher up on your back, maybe one of those motorcycle aero backpacks I have seen?

20 liters is pretty small. I use 60-100 when I go camping.

The first robin and the first sport bike on the road are welcome signs of spring. I bought some pool foam noodles to split and use to fill the gap between my body and the tail box.

20 liters is huge! For this sort of application, at least. A camping size backpack is reasonable for camping, but not for taking a motorcycle out- unless you're going straight to the grocery store and back. For being out and about and simply wanting to have a way to carry some stuff 20l is almost too big, the size of a school backpack.

An old style buttpack holds a bunch and it's only 7 liters, and my Camelback MULE is less than 9. The 7 liter was great for years, but we wore gear differently in the desert so I had to buy something else. With that little Camelbak I'd have all sorts of stuff with me short of overnighting, and still only have a small bag that wasn't cumbersome. I still use it.

Shaped panels to give a small pack an aero shape is a good idea.

There is camping and there is running errands. When my late father-in-law rode his restored BMW 250cc from Buffalo, NY to Redmond, OR he took his camping gear and was fully loaded. Not the same as his commuting to work. One perennial complaint about going carless is lack of cargo capacity.

Status quou on the project, no changes . There is no good reason to remove the aerotrunk other than if I need to carry a passenger.

Recently I decided to use this same approach on my road bike. Here is the link
