no.

Sure math is based off mathematical theory, so not everyone believes in it, but there are a lot of well written books on intake design that use math and when those intakes are put on engines that they are designed for they work better and you can design that intake to work well at high revs so you produce more power or at low revs, but a poorly designed intake will make the engine work harder to produce the same amount of power.
But some don't like to pay attention to complex things like math and instead like the simple "less restriction is better" idea instead of designing something that really is better.

discuvered that on my InfinitiQ45. Tried a cone. failed.
Infiniti spent millions on the V8 engine to get the max uot of 4.5 litrs(274 cubic inches) The result was 340hp.
I was able to get better mpg by leaving the engine bone stock and 'adujusting the nut behind the wheel' and aero mods.

Before playing with filtration (air or oil), become familiar with microns of filtration. You can easily find out how many micron the OE recommends and if a replacement filter doesn't list, meet, or exceed the OE, stay far, far away from it. Your engine will thank you.

obviously a cone filter isn't going to reduce any restriction in the intake, however, i am of the opinion that the mpg increases some people note is actually due to the WAI effect of adding one, obviously not full kits with thermal barriers.
