Thumbs up Air filters stock and high flow aftermarket

I am driving a 2004 escalade 6.0 AWD it go15-to 16 mpg when I bought it at best. I put mobile 1 0-30 and it went up to 17 and sometimes 18. Always seemed to stumble a bit at idle typical for most gms I have had. I priced stock air filter at 18.99 was not cheap. K &N @59.99 but online email coupon 15 % made it 47. And change a no brainer I used one befire in my 2000 5.7 escalade and got 2mpg boost. But with this 6.0 I went from an avg hiway 17 to 23-24 I cant believe it myself but that is what the display shows and usage is backing that up I did not expect a huge gain like this . I will fill it and check the actual miles though its a mix mostly city now. But the avg overal is much higher as well almst 3 mpg. So it does appear accurate as of now. It uses iridium plugs stock and I used these before in other caddies and they all ran smoother. If it runs better with them it does substantiate better mpg. And never have I ever read a combustion engine engine being 95% eff. Burn rate dont think thats possible. So stock does not mean it is the best to use as someone said already it is not cost effective to use the best components for the highest mpg. That woukd nake ut so expensive few could afford it . Think about it tires high press smooth tread better than aggressive tread mpg wise synthetics better too so why not all synthetics trans axels and engine ,areodynamics too more engineering better air flow less resistance. Polished and balanced intakes and exhaust . Likely it would add 25gs more to the cost , using more aluminum and carbon fiber to lower weight all are factors as well as high end injectors vs stock. With those they are balanced to output virtually the same gpm where stock does not have that kind of accuracy of equal delivery. They make it affordable not as efficient as it could really be. Has anyone else had this kind of gain using k&n and mobile one? So could spark plugs that can initiate a more complete burn result in better mpg, if it indeed is a substantially better burn it would stand to reason yes. Is it true though , dont know but I do know the 6.0 is running better than it ever has and that it the most likely reason for the gain and not the higher flow. Yes the computer is supposed to adjust for that flow but it can not explain how it runs now. It is really that much smoother and quieter . I am amazed at the results.

There are plenty of threads here that factually debunk increased mpg w kn filters. You really need to do a-b-a testing to validate your results.

1. Paragraphs are your friend.

2. You say that putting in a cotton air filter and using a different oil brand (of the same weight) improved mileage by 35% or more--show me the money. Let's see your fuel log.

Angry

I actually bought a K&N air filter back in the day for one of my various hoopties.
It did absolutely d*ck. The thing I remember most about it was that I was pretty mad at myself for believing a bunch of hype enough to buy the stupid thing
