I get 38 mpg on the highway w/ my 6 spd SE-R at 55 mph. If I push it to 62 mph, my mpg drops to 33-34, and if I push it to 72 mph, my mpg drops to 26. Those are all based on 400 mile drives w/ cruise control.
Vegasdude's recent tanks are remarkable, coming from the 3.5 and hauling the weight of the Altima. Congratulations!

I can't be certain the gas is always the same, it may sometimes not contain 10% ethanol, it's only a small corner gas station. I'm wondering cause I've just averaged 45 MPG over two round trips to work. (That will probably come down over the weekends.) I've been timing the lights very well. On the way home, which is slightly down hill the entire way, I've been using P+G to time the lights even better, my engine stays off far more than it's on.

He has a 6 speed? that's cheating
I wish I had a 6 speed in the Maxima, then my wife and I would REALLY scuffle over rights to drive it!

My first ever aero-mods: I took the passenger side mirror and both wipers off today. I removed the front license plate, but then I figured it would do better laying flat against the grille acting as a partial block. Pictures later.
Temp was over 100 on the drive to work and I still haven't used the A/C.

My wife and I have an 05 Altima SE-R 6spd. We have been working on our driving skills(both newbies) and it is getting 31-32 around town with the windows down! This car is bone stock. We are going to Key West next month and might take it there. I have been thinking about making an upper grill block for it and doing some more work. Yea, the 3.5 is a great engine. This big car with a V6 will get down with it!

Lol, I never thought of the Altima as a big car, but then again it's about the same size and weight as my 98 Maxima. I wonder what the possibilities are of getting a 6 speed on my max......

It would be a little bit of a job but can be done no problem. The hard part would be finding all the parts without spending a ton of $$$.

The two most important things to remember is drive gently and conserve momentum. I take about 30 seconds to accelerate to 30 mph and drive at 35 tops. Take the best route to and from work and get aquatinted with the timing of the lights. It's okay if you have to stop, as long as you are coasting to a stop. The freeway is actually far worse on mileage than the city (for me) because driving at a steady 55 takes more gas than P+G thru the city at 35.
We had a heat wave move thru the valley last weekend and my mileage went from 45 MPG to under 38. My car was telling me it was as high as 118F in a few spots. I'm okay up to ~105F with the A/C off, chomping on ice and swallowing the bits, but it was not happening then. I think the gas required to idle with the A/C on is only a little less than what is required to move the car at 30 mph with the A/C off. Since it's cooled off I'm back up to 40 MPG (indicated) and I'm hoping to improve on that before I fill up.

turbo dan-o are there 6 speed trannys that would easily replace the tranny I already have? If I could find one that bolts up and works with the cv axles, the rest is just details.

Cracked 40 MPG
I couldn't get an exact mileage out of this tank since my battery fell below the voltage necessarily to save the trip distance. (Long story, my fault entirely.) I knew I had at least 515 miles on the trip up to that point, So I added that to what the trip meter said at the pump for a total of:
739 miles (Might be more, definitely not less.)
18.26 gal
40.47 MPG
I was around 45 MPG indicated until the last few days of the tank when I did some freeway driving with the A/C on.
