America's Greatest Race Car
This is a must see on Discovery HD Theater.
Discovery HD Theater :: TV Listings :: America's Greatest Race Car
Lots of aero design history and its amazing how a few young punks for their time kick arse on the Italians back in 1964-1965
It amazes me how this beautiful aero car has not made a impact on today's cars. In fact we strayed away from this.
Anyway its a great show!!!

There is an outfit that makes replicas. Wonder if you could get it with a Cummins 4BT3.9 and a T-56?

always amazed at how close Pete Brock came to both visual and aerodynamic perfection. Car needed a front air dam/splitter, for aero balance,
but isn't that the SWEETEST REAR END YOU EVER SAW!!!!!!

What Carroll Shelby accomplished is really understated.
He had the 289 (AC) Cobra, the GT350 (mustang fastback) the 427 (AC) Cobra and the Cobra Daytona SC. All within 3 yrs!!!! And totally dominated every race or level he was at.
I have a coffee table book on sports cars that I bought in the mid 80s. Page after page, beautiful fast sportcars. The last car listed is the 427 w/ 6 webbers. THe author said it was listed last because you had to forget everything you had just read! the 427completely redefined the parameters. when the book was published The 427 was the only car in the world to go from 0 to 100 to 0 in 13 seconds.
I often wondered how much 'manufaturer' money Ford funnelled to ol' Carroll under the table.

found this on Hemmings Auto Blog....
The 1965 Daytona Cobra was one of six cars built by Shelby to compete against Ferrari in the FIA World Manufacturers Championship GT class. It stared out as an experimental coupe body designed by Peter Brock built on an existing Cobra chassis, immediately increasing the top speed by 25 mph. That car won its first race, the 1964 Daytona Continental (hence the car’s Daytona name), and five more coupes were built, including CSX2601, the car that sold on Saturday.
After competing at Daytona, Monza, Spa and Nurburgring, CSX2601 clinched the 1965 World Manufacturers Championship on July 4 in Reims, France, with Bondurant at the wheel.
