Sold!

Pending pick-up...

I took a bit less than I think I could have got, but the buyer came across as uncharacteristically decent compared to many of the others who have replied / low-balled. Happy to reward him for being a civil human being. $1200

Sadly, he doesn't plan to actually save the car.

He just wants it for parts for his existing convertible, and this one is complete, relatively clean & comes with all the extra goodies from the Swift GT that convertible owners like. (Except the engine.)

Same deal with my Dasher. He seemed like an Okay guy, so we settled on $1200.

Within a few days, it had been vandalized and wound up back with the mechanic I bought it from, where it sits with a $600 bill pending.

One thing he won't be swapping from your car is the floor

I'd like to source the optional luggage rack for the convertible.

Not having a rack on the XFi is a continuing problem. I'd take the mileage hit, it's an around-town car.

How so? These hatchbacks have tons of cargo room! Assuming nobody's in the back seat.

Thanks! It went well: Buyer came and paid tonight & picked up a bunch of the Swift parts. Bringing a trailer to get the car on the weekend. He lives about 70 km / 43 mi. away.

He's probably going to start by swapping the drivetrain - his car has twice the kilometers on it.

Rusty Firefly convertibles are a low-return investment!

I did the math: investing in rusted Firefly convertibles for 12 years is not lucrative.

$800 turned into $1200 over 12 years.

Or the equivalent of 3.5% annualized on my original $800 purchase price. Comparable to a guaranteed term deposit.

On the other hand, that $800 would have become ~$2150 if I'd stuck it in a US S&P 500 index fund.

Let that be a lesson, kids!

Occasionally I kick myself when seeing 90's sports cars I could have bought 15-20 years ago selling for 3x that price today, but the S&P returned 4-5x during that same time period. And for every 993 turbo that shot way up in value you have cars that mostly stagnated like the 3000gt vr4 or even declined like the neon srt4 or wrx...
